Race goes off at 6:30 pm
Anyone needing more than two hours to complete the race MUST start early and check-in with the timer. Everyone must be off the course by 8:30 pm.  Early starts are only for those who will take more than 2 hours to complete. Early start is not for those who just want to finish early.

Parking: Carpooling is strongly advised. Single occupant vehicles will park in the lower Awosting lot (straight ahead from the ticket booth)
We are planning to have a shuttle but don’t count on it. The race start is approx 1.5 miles from the lower lot. Vehicles with 2 or more occupants can park up top (after going through the ticket booth make a left-hand turn).
We’ve had some issues in the past with people arriving very close to race time and then causing issues with the rangers. Please arrive early so you have plenty of time to get to the start of the race. Abuse of park rangers, verbal or otherwise, will not be tolerated.

Race start: Cliffhouse Picnic area on the east side of the lake (opposite side from the Visitors Center) and is approx 1/2 mile from the upper parking lots. There will be signs pointing the way to the start. Check out the course map. It shows where parking, water stops, and the start/finish area are.

2021 After The Leaves Have Fallen Recap & Results

First, thank you all for coming out and running in a most beautiful area. Our apologies for the natural water obstacles and hope anyone who may have taken a spill can rejoice in pushing to finish.

Second, I need to thank all the volunteers who helped to make the event successful. It takes commitment to be willing to come and help at an event. Please pay it forward someday and hopefully you will get a different kind of fulfillment from the race experience.

I liked the new start/finish point, although I know there may have been just a few who did not enjoy the final uphill push. With the visitor center now blocking our old stomping grounds we’ll have to make do in this new area.

Finally, what you’ve all been waiting for…Results

If there are any questions or if I messed up your time please let me know.

Thanks from the Shawangunk Runners
Christopher Regan

Upcoming Fall Races!

Registration has opened for a couple upcoming fall races put on by the club.

First up on October 9th is the in-person Rosendale Runs Plains Run (4.3m)
There is also a virtual option available.

Registration link: https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/index.php?e=1581

“Come visit the quirky Village of Rosendale, once the home of the world famous Rosendale Cement Company, and now a thriving center of the arts. The Rosendale Plains run will be a 4.3 mile jaunt up through the hamlet of Tillson and back down to Rosendale. The race is going to be low key but since it is organized by the Shawangunk Runners Club it will have a few “surprise frills”. The race will also serve as race #9 in the 2021 Onteora Runners Club Grand Prix. Now that is interclub cooperation at its best. The in-person race will be on 10/9 with a come and run the course on your own “virtual” component from 10/10-10/18. Best of all the race is priced to be affordable for all at $10. $5 of your entry feel will be donated to the Rosendale Recreation Department. We encourage additional donations for the recreation program. All finisher’s receive a certificate plus some “surprise giveaways.”

Next up is the infamous After the Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon
There is both an in-person event on 11/14 and virtual option.

Registration Link: https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/index.php?e=1584

“We are BACK at Lake Minnewaska for the After the Leaves/Josh Feldt Half Marathon! This run is simply spectacular as we run around two pristine glacial lakes and along the Shawangunk Ridge which affords views into 5 states. The groomed unpaved carriage trails of the Preserve are perfect for running. The Shawangunk Runners Club strives to keep running affordable for all and that explains the low entry fee of $25. Registration is online only. We have a max limit of 300 runners and this race typically sells out. There will be awards in all standard 10 year age groups, refreshments, and a finisher’s gift for all finishers. The race will go off at 11:30 am with packet pickup beginning at 10:30 am. We must be off the trails by 2:15 pm so for people who can’t meet the 2 hour and 45 minute race cut off time we will have an early start time at 11am giving people an extra half hour to finish. If you can’t reasonably finish with a time under 3:15 this race is not for you. The race is Race #10 in the Onteora Runners Club Grand Prix and there is a “virtual option” to run the course on your own from 11/15-11/21.”

Course
The course is approximately 4 miles.
This is one of the courses used for the Shawangunk Runners’ Cross Country Series. Starting/finish line is on Minnewaska Carriage Rd. If running it virtually, just make sure you start and stop your watch at the exact same spot near the new Visitors Center, over looking the lake. It is a loop race course so just be sure to stop your watch exactly where you started it, or at 4 miles. 1. Start near the Visitor’s Center on Minnewaska Carriage Road [RED markers]. 2. Run down to the beach area. At the beach go RIGHT on Upper Awosting Carriage Rd [GREEN markers]. Go about one mile until the trees thin out and you can see an overgrown meadow on your left. This is the entry to the old golf course. This will be about 1 mile from the beach. 3. TURN LEFT onto the old golf course, running uphill. These trails have no names and are not marked by the Park. They are all mowed grass through the golf course. At the top of the hill you will start running through many tall blueberry bushes. Follow the orange flagging tape and orange ground markers as you wind through the golf course. 4. At the top of the hill, you will exit the golf course turn left on Castle Point Carriage Road [BLUE markers]. This will intersect with Lake Minnewaska Carriage Rd. 5. Turn RIGHT on Lake Minnewaska Carriage Rd [RED markers]. Head counter-clockwise around the lake. This will bring you back to the parking areas. where you will bear left back to the Visitor area where you started your watch. Yellow Flags and surveyors tape marks the course.

Note: If you’re doing the virtual and get lost just stop your watch at 4 miles and provide that as your time. May the odds be ever in your favor.
