Results from night 2 of the NP XC Summer Series

Thanks everyone for coming out on another beautiful summer evening!  We had a new course and while there was some quirks I think everyone enjoyed the race. Thanks again to all the volunteers who help make things go as smoothly as they do. A new stop next week at Williams Lake should also be exciting.

Reminder for how the points work…Top age group finishers in each race will score 6 points; points will be awarded in descending order (5,4,3,2); all finishers will score at least 1 point each race. Highest totals win at end of series. All finishers scoring at least 4 points, and participating in at least 2 races, will receive handmade ceramic awards on the final night.

I’ll be away starting tomorrow so i’ll try to get updates done as soon as I can.

Reminder that you need to bring your bib back next week and/or any future races in the series. Next week the race will be at Williams Lake. I’ll try to send out an email with details the day before the event but look on Facebook for posts from Steve Schallenkamp for more details.

A couple more notes for next week. I won’t be there so Dan and Allan will be helping to do the timing. It’ll be the minimum setup so no results kiosk. I’ll be back for week 4 and will have the extra laptop set up with the results from Week 3 so you can print them out if you want them

Second night of the New Paltz XC Summer Series tomorrow evening!

First, if you ran or picked up your bib for the series last week you must bring it back this week. If you’re carpooling, which we ask that you do, please remember to bring your bib and not to leave it in your car. Also, you don’t need to check in.

Parking
Carpooling, if you can, will be extremely helpful. Parking at the trail site parking on Springtown Rd will be limited to cars with 3 or more runners and for parents with little kids who will be running in the kid’s races. ALL others will need to park in the village and give themselves extra time. I’ve linked to a map that shows some of the village municipal parking.

Getting to the Start Line
The R2R trail actually starts right at the bridge, near The Gilded Otter, across the Wallkill so please dont walk on the roadway. Google Map of the Start / Finish

Other Info

2019 Summer Solstice Trail Run Results

While it may not have been the most beautiful evening in the Gunks it still turned out to be a pretty good night, perhaps except for the humidity, for a run in June. 224 of you came out to run the temporary course for the Summer Solstice at Mohonk Preserve. Thanks to Mohonk Preserve for letting us be able to continue to put on the event while Minnewaska works on some upgrades.

Thanks to all the volunteers who make the events possible as well as Steve, Beth & Christopher who puts countless hours before the event to make sure it goes off without a hitch. We’re always looking for volunteers for events so if you ever want to get a different perspective on a run just reach out.

Results from the race are available at: 2019 Summer Solstice Trail Run Results
If there are any corrections needed please send an email to christopher.regan@gmail.com

I need to check how the finish line pictures came out and the video of the finish line and will upload them and post a link if they came out ok.

Hopefully we’ll see a lot of you at the upcoming 46th Annual New Paltz XC Summer Series that starts July 8th. Details and registration are available at: https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/index.php?e=1283
* Note: registration fee is included in the price so please register online to save paper, stamps and time the night of the races. Thanks!

Finally I know Steve Schallenkamp mentioned it during the awards ceremony last night but Conquer The World Endurance is hosting the Red Wing Trail Challenge, 10k & 10 mile, coming up on Sunday July 7th at the Red Wing Recreation Area in Lagrangeville, NY.
You can use the code: SSRWTT19 for $5 off either event.

Summer Solstice Race Details

Sorry for the delay in getting this info out there but there’s a lot of important things that you need to know about.

Race is on Wednesday June 19th starting at the West Trapps Bridge in Mohonk Preserve. Bib pickup starts at 5 pm and the race will go off at 6:30 pm. This is different from previous years. Please do not go to Minnewaska. 🙂

Parking
Carpooling, if you can, will be extremely helpful. Even if you plan to park at the Mohonk Visitor Center and then carpool to the West Trapps Trailhead Parking Lot. Parking will be at the West Trapps Trailhead Parking Lot or the Mohonk Visitor Center. Both have a bit of a walk to the start but the West Trapps is closer. The hike on the connector trail from the Visitor Center to the race start is less than 3/4 of a mile. There may be a shuttle running from the Visitor Center to the West Trapps dropoff but don’t count on it. 🙂 Arrive early to have less stress.
There is absolutely no parking on 44/55 and you will be ticketed and/or towed. You are also not allowed to drop people off on 44/55. If you need to drop off a racer please go into the West Trapps parking lot to drop them off. You may also be ticketed if you stop on 44/55 to drop someone off.

Bib Pickup
If you’re a Mohonk Preserve member you must bring your member card. Pickup will start at 5 pm. There will be 2 lines one for Preserve Members and one for non-members. Non-members will receive a wristband and 2 complementary passes for a free day in Mohonk Preserve. Guests must also bring their membership card or they will need to pay the $15 entrance fee for Mohonk in cash.

Race
The race will start at 6:30 pm sharp. We would like everyone to be finished by 8:30 pm so if you think it will take you longer than 2 hours for the 9.5ish mile course please look further down for “early start” instructions.
A course track is available at: https://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=rfctpotnttxvobci
This also includes a elevation map as well as instructions for turns and such. The course will be marked with white flour arrows. Small orange cones will block off routes you shouldn’t go.

Water Stops
Water will be available at @2.5 miles, @4.5 miles, and @7 miles. There will only be water at these aid stations so if you’d like something else please plan to carry it with you.

Post Race
After the run there will be water as well as wraps, chicken tenders, bagels w/ peanut butter or cream cheese, bananas, strawberries, oranges, & cookies.

Results
If everything goes smoothly live results should post immediately to https://www.arrowliveresults.com/
Individual results print outs will be available near the timing tent and final results will be uploaded to https://shawangunkrunners.com/

Early Start
If you plan to take longer than 2 hours for the race we ask you to start early so that you finish around 8:30. The early start is not for those who want to be done earlier. 😉
Early starters will need to check in with the timer (Christopher Regan) before they start so he can record their start time. You will come through the finish line like normal and your time will adjust automatically. If, for some reason, you start without telling the timer please let him know when you finish your correct finish time so the results are correct. Thanks!

2019 Summer Solstice Course Map

I’ve had a few people ask me and I finally went out and ran the course today. Well, I ran and walked 🙂 I won’t say it’s not a little difficult especially for those of us runners who aren’t mountain goats. The mountain laurel was out in bloom and it was a beautiful summer morning.

Anyway, you can view the map here... https://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=rfctpotnttxvobci
Instructions are in the link but I'll also put them here:
Start at West Trapps Bridge in Mohonk Preserve
Make a quick left onto Overcliff Carriage Road
@2.3 miles make a left onto a small section of carriage road and then a another left which will put you on Laurel Ledge
Continue on Laurel Ledge until about 4.2 miles where you'll continue right onto Humpty Dumpty Dr.
@4.56 miles male a left onto Short Woodland Drive
@4.85 miles make a right onto Old Minnewaska Trail
@4.94 miles make a left onto Home Farm Drive
@5 miles you'll make another left to stay on Home Farm Drive
@5.09 miles you'll make a left to stay on Home Farm Drive
Just before 5.1 miles you'll make a right onto Forest Drive
@5.16 miles you'll make a right onto Old Stage Rd
@5.73 you'll continue straight onto a single/double track trail called Glory Hill Trail
When Glory Hill Trail hits Oakwood Drive you'll make a hard right
Continue on Oakwood Dr until just after 7 miles when you'll make a left to go over Rhododendron Bridge
Continue straight back onto Overcliff Carriage Road
Overcliff Carriage Road will bring you back to West Trapps Bridge and the finish line

Finally I'd like to mention that I'll be sending the first email to everyone with some info for the race on Wednesday, 2 weeks before the race. Mohonk Preserve has asked us to make sure we are clear that carpooling is a necessity since parking is limited. Also leave yourself enough time to get to West Trapps Bridge if you have to park at the Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center and hike up (it's about a mile).

Also I’ll be opening up the 46th Annual XC Summer Series on Monday so i’ll make a post about that come Monday.

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weeked
