We did a test run of the new 2014 Half Marathon course. The start / end need to be adjusted from the images below since we will be starting / ending at the top of Lake Minnewaska. This should give you a good idea of how the course will run and the elevation profile. We can’t wait for November 9th!

I’m not sure we could have had a better early August morning for the 2014 Rock and Snow “Bridge 2 Bridge” 5 Mile Run benefiting the Mohonk Preserve. There was a lot of good and positive energy at the Spring Farm Pavilion and lots of smiles. Everyone I talked to loved the course and, of course, the beauty they were running in. I personally could have done without the hill at mile 2 though. 🙂
As always, a race would be nothing without the tremendous effort of the volunteers. I’d like to personally thank all those out on the course making sure people went the right way, the people at the water stop, the finish line crew and all those others who helped before, during, and after the race.
There was also plenty of food to fuel the runners and I’d like to thank Yvonne for making the Veggie Salad. I may have eaten a few more cookies than I should have…oh well.

Last night saw the conclusion of the 2014 Summer Cross Country Series. Another wonderful night for everyone to go out and run the distance of their choice without that pesky clock or others to race against. Even I, the timer, got to leave the computer in the car and go for a nice 8 mile run. We had beautiful mugs for awards this year designed and hand crafted by Solveig Comer of Most Precious Pottery.
I’d like to thank all the amazing volunteers, without them we wouldn’t be able to attend to all you racers. A special thanks goes out to Beth Glace, Steve Schallenkamp, Christine Kelton & Mendy Taylor who were the race directors for the 4 races. It takes a lot of time and effort to put those races on and I’m thankful we have such a wonderful group of leaders.

Finally I’d like to put a plug in for the Rock and Snow “Bridge 2 Bridge” Run that is coming up on Saturday August 9th, 2014. It’s a benefit run for the Mohonk Preserve. There is no day of registration so make sure you sign up early.
After The Leaves will be coming up in November and is the last of the Shawangunk Runners races for the year. Keep an eye out for a post on that.

Jobs include course marshals, water stop, registration, finish line, sweep and refreshments. While there may have been some rain I don’t think we could have had a more wonderful evening at Minnewaska State Park. Cool temperatures for July and some wind made for a somewhat chilly evening for some. Heck I was even wearing a jacket and i’m always warm. Hopefully some of you got to enjoy some of the delicious blueberries out on the first half of the course.

Final Standings for 2014 Series
Next week is the Series Awards and Fun Run at the New Paltz Rail Trail (Park at Old Dutch Reformed Church, Huguenot Street, New Paltz, NY) This won’t be officially timed so come out and run as much or as little as you’d like.
While initially I was concerned about the heat, it turned out to be a great temperature up at Minnewaska with some cloud cover and a few spritzes of rain. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers as well as the runners. Next week is the Blueberry Run also at Minnewaska…we won’t fault you for stopping for a snack along the run. Maybe come up early and pick some before the run.

It turned out to be a pretty beautiful evening at Spring Farm last night with an especially stunning sunset over the Catskills. Thank you all for running “Lou’s Run”. It was great to have his spirit honored by all those in attendance.
