Exciting things from our 2017 Annual Meeting

Thanks to everyone who made it to our annual meeting last night. It was productive and the pizza looked delicious.

First off I’d like to make you all aware of the dates for our upcoming races…

Saturday April 8th – Rock & Snow Bridge 2 Bridge Run (Registration is already open!)
Wednesday June 21st – Summer Solstice 14K Trail Run
Monday July 10th – New Paltz XC Summer Series #1: Pattersons Pellet (Minnewaska State Park)

Monday July 31st – New Paltz XC Summer Series #4: Lou’s Run (Mohonk Preserve)
Monday August 8th – Fun Run & Series Awards
Sunday November 12th – After The Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon

Currently the plan is to limit both Summer Solstice and After The Leaves registration to 300 people this year but that is subject to change as we work with Minnewaska Sate Park.

Next up is changing in price for Summer Solstice and After The Leaves Half Marathon…last years price was $15. This year we are going to raise the price of these events to $20.  2017 Shawangunk Runner Members, in good standing, will receive the original price of $15 as well as early registration for these events. If you’d like to become a member of the Shawangunk Runners please fill out and mail this form -> Membership Form

Registration for Summer Solstice is planned to open up for members on April 1st with general registration opening 1 week later on April 8th. Registration for After The Leaves Half Marathon will open up to members on Sept 1st with general registration opening 1 week later on Sept 8th. I will create new posts as these events get closer.

We are also looking into member gear options as well as the possibility of having shirts available for purchase for this seasons races. These shirts will most likely not be available for purchase at the race but we will provide a link to allow you to purchase these on your own. We want to keep our races reasonably priced while allowing the widest range of options for people. We don’t want to make money off of any merchandise. We’ll be discussing more at our next meeting and hopefully we’ll have something available this year.

Finally we elected the board members for the 2017 year…
President: Steve Schallenkamp
Vice President: Beth Glace
Treasurer: Dan Freedman
Secretary: Greg Cecere
Technology Officer: Christopher Regan

Our next meeting will be on Monday 3/13 at 5:30pm at the SUNY New Paltz Science Hall | Corner of Plattekill & 32 in New Paltz, NY

Initial Results from After The Leaves

It was a absolutely beautiful November day for a run through Minnewaska State Park. I hope you all enjoyed the race. I want to thank all the volunteers who came out to help without which we wouldn’t be able to put on our races. There were a few snafus that we will learn from and discuss to hopefully make the race even better next year.

Please find the initial results here ->2016-after-the-leaves-results

If there are any mistakes in the results please email me at christopher.regan@gmail.com

We strive to make our races affordable and enjoyable to all who run. If you have comments / suggestions you can email me or the race director.

Thank You!

Final details for After The Leaves Half Marathon

We’re less than 48 hours from what I believe is going to be an amazing event. Weather is looking perfect for Sunday and temperatures should be in the 50’s by the start of the race. Please read through this entire email to find details of the event.

First off, there is no registration day of. We’ve had incredible interest in the event and it sold out a couple months ago. We have been able to open up about 100 spots to those on the waiting list but sadly we didn’t have enough spots for all who wanted to run.

BIBs: Are assigned by last name. They MUST be worn on the front and visible. Your bib needs to be recorded after you cross the finish line for your time to be recorded.

Finish Line: Only cross the finish line once. If you go back to run with a friend / family please do not cross the finish line a second time. Also since we need to record your bib # please slow down in the chute and do not pass (stay in order that you crossed the finish line)

Finisher Glass: You will receive your glass as you exit the finish line chute.

Awards: Top 3 Overall Male / Female, Top 3 in both Male & Female age groups for the following 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Over.

Water Stops: 3 water stops at ~4 miles, ~8 miles and ~11 miles

Bathrooms: Port-a-Potties are available near the upper lot. There are none on the course.

Early starters: We’ve had many chose the option to early start. We have a few requests for those choosing to early start. There will be an official early start at 11am. Early starters must do the following to properly have your time recorded…
1. You must self time. Either use a watch, phone or track what time you started / finished.
2. You must wear your bib on the front with the number turned backwards facing your body. This lets us know you are an early starter at the finish line.
3. There will be a special chute for early starters. Please do not cross the normal finish line.
4. You must come to the timing table to fill out a card with your information. BIB # and Time are the most important.
Note: If you are self timing you do not have to start with the official early starters but please let someone know you are starting.

Post-race Food: Wraps and soup from P&G’s, bagels, bananas, apples, and cookies

Thanks all, see you Sunday!

A couple upcoming races we recommend

Hello Runners!

We’d like to recommend a couple upcoming races in October.

Rosendale Runs Half Marathon and 4.4 Miler
The Rosendale Runs race will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2016. The Town of Rosendale, in upstate New York, just 90 miles from NYC provides a beautiful venue for its 2nd Half Marathon and its long standing popular 4.4 Plains Run.

Come experience breathtaking scenic views around every bend in the midst of the fall foliage. A mostly flat course, yet with just enough challenge to offer the sense of accomplishment desired.

Run across the trail that made the National Rails to Trails Conservancy’s top ten- list of most “iconic rail trails”. You will cross over the 143- year old historic Rosendale trestle bridge, which extends 900 ft. across the Rondout creek. The race will take you along scenic lakes, into a cave lit only by “Halloween pumpkin candles”. Come experience the dramatic scenery of the enchanting town of Rosendale that helped build the Brooklyn Bridge with its natural limestone cement.

All proceeds (100%) will go the Town of Rosendale Parks and Recreation.

Tonight is the final night of the 2016 New Paltz Summer XC Series! The fun run will start at Garvan’s Gastropub this year. The address is 215 Huguenot St, New Paltz, NY 12561. (Google Map) If the parking lot gets full the BOCES parking lot can be used with a short walk to Garvan’s.

Reminder this isn’t a timed event. You don’t need to bring your bib and you’ll be able to enjoy a nice run on the rail trail.

See you tonight!

Summer XC Series #4 Recap

It’s certainly been interesting weather for this years races. Last night was no different with some mist and thick cloud cover causing it to be darker than usual. I know how dark it must have been in the woods at Spring Farm and I’m happy that most people came out of the woods unscathed. There’s always a positive and that was that the temperatures were mild.

Next week is the Fun Run / Series Awards. There is a change this year and that we will be meeting at Garvan’s Gastropub (215 Huguenot St, New Paltz, NY 12561) We’ll all head out on the rail trail for a fun run and head back for the series awards.

Thank you all for joining us for the races and we hope you’ll come out for the fun run and to see the awards.

Here’s a recap of results for the series

Draft results from last nights run “Lou’s Run”

Draft results from last nights run “Lou’s Run” at Spring Farm. I have a discrepancy I need resolved. Bib #489, which wasn’t an assigned bib, came through in 36th place with a time of 34:43.10. I’m assuming the real bib # was written on the other side as they probably forgot their bib one of the weeks. For proper results and series awards for this person I need to know who it is. For now here are last nights results missing that person and a pdf of those who reached the 4 points with at least 2 races in the series and will be able to get their series award next week at the fun run.

Lou’s Run Results
Note: The pace is based off 4.2 miles although we’re not exactly sure how far the race was. I had 4.16 while someone else had 4.51
