Weekends & Holidays are extremely busy and the venue closes if the lots fill. DO NOT PARK on the side of the road…you will get ticketed and/or towed.

Sky Lakes & Landscapes Mitten Pickup Follow-up

I need you to please read and understand the entire post…

There are 2 pickup locations remaining this weekend with different times and different instructions and 1 on Wednesday 11/25

TOMORROW – Keegan Ales parking lot on St James St Kingston Sunday 11/22 11:30 am 12:30 pm.

WEDNESDAY – Kingston Wednesday 11/25 at Dietz Stadium by the track 5-6pm.

For the above you just show up and someone will be there (I’m assuming Steve Schallenkamp) who will have your mittens. You don’t need to text or call or anything.

TODAY & TOMORROW – Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie 11/21 & 11/22 during normal store hours.

We wanted to provide a couple of additional details about mitten pickup at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie as they are getting very overwhelmed with calls and messages.  They do these pickups for us as a courtesy and we are trying to be as non-disruptive to their business as possible.

To reiterate, mitten pickup is at Fleet Feet Poughkeepsie on Saturday 11/21 & Sunday 11/22 only.  If you are unable to pick-up during those days, please respond back to this email to make other arrangements.  Please do not contact them about setting stuff aside for pickup at a later date, this is unfortunately not a possibility.

Also, their address is 1895 South Road, Poughkeepsie, NY at the Shoppes at South Hills.  There are people texting their store phone but showing up for pickup at the wrong location.  Their weekend hours are Saturday 10am-6pm & Sunday 11am-4pm.

If you don’t plan to shop, once you arrive you can just TEXT their store phone at 845-375-0704 and they will bring the mittens out to you.  They have several different pickups going on currently and it is significantly easier for them if you use the text method vs. calling the store.

Any questions, concerns or complaints can be sent to me Christopher Regan @ christopher.regan@gmail.com

Week 4 of the Shawangunk Runners Sky Lakes and Landscapes Autumn Series brings us to the O&W Rail Trail. At this time of year we think you’ll really enjoy the trail as it’s filled with leaves all different colors. This week is also special because it brings you 3 distances you can run. Please make sure you choose the proper distance when you go to submit your results. Distances are 4.5, 7.3 or 9.61.

Course
The run starts at the Legett Road trailhead and goes south. It has three option that are all out and back. The first turnaround will be Rest Plaus Rd. and that makes the run 4.5 miles the second turnaround is Kyserike Rd and that will be a 7.3 mile run the final turnaround is Lucas Turnpike/County Route 1. I will lay down flour flags, a cone and some tape at each turnaround. Legget Rd is considered Stone Ridge. Since the parking area is small people can actually run the distances on any stretch of the O&W- there are 8 parking areas starting up near kingston.

First, you still have till Midnight on 10/18 to enter your results for Week 2 – https://runsignup.com/Race/Results/101291#resultSetId-221981;perpage:100

Week 3 of the Shawangunk Runners Sky Lakes and Landscapes Autumn Series brings us to Minnewaska State Park. If you’re familiar with the Summer Solstice Run I think this will give you a new view in the fall. It’s an absolutely beautiful run with lots of lookouts.

Park Information – https://parks.ny.gov/parks/127
* Contains info on fees, hours, etc

AllTrails Course Link w/ Description:https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/castle-point-gallop-sky-lakes-series-minnewaska-state-park-8d1de74

General Notes
All rules, regulations and fees are required when visiting the actual race courses.

Course
The course is approximately 8.4 miles. If you aren’t running the actual course you should run 8.4 miles. Reminder that for this virtual series you don’t need to run the actual course but it’s definitely more fun.

NOTE: We did not mark this course in any way – it is a loop and should be quite apparent.
1. Drive to Upper parking area at Lake Minnewaska [not lower Awosting parking area].
2. From Parking area, walk to the start/finish line: stay to the right of the new visitor center, following carriage path to intersection of Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, red trail. At that intersection you will be overlooking the lake, at the top of a hill, with the trail going downhill on your right as you face the lake. That intersection is the START/Finish.  From that intersection, at the rail fence, run down the hill keeping the lake on your left on the RED trail.
3. Stay LEFT at the bottom of the hill, past the beach area. Go counterclockwise around the lake, staying on Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, RED trail.
4. Head uphill away from the beach and about a half mile from where you started, make a RIGHT on the blue trail, Castle Point Carriageway.
5. Stay on Castle Point Carriageway for approximately 2.5 miles, to the overlook at Castle Rock [great views]. The trail will go down hill, through switchbacks, and take you to the black trail, Lake Awosting Carriageway. Go Straight onto Lake Awosting Carriageway. The lake will be on your left.
6. Stay on the black trail, Lake Awosting Carriageway, about 0.5 miles to the intersection with the green trail, Upper Awosting Carriageway. This should be at about 5.3 miles into the run. Upper Awosting Carriageway, green trail, will be a mostly gradual downhill run back to Lake Minnewaska, about 3.1 miles. It is fast and very runnable.
7. At the beach area, intersection of Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, go LEFT up the hill to the finish/start [~100 yards uphill] to where you started your watch. 8.4 miles approximately.

1. Start at the metal gate which separates the parking lot from the trails, see photo. Run across lawn and to the fork.

The spot is marked with small orange surveyors tape and some orange tape on bushes and white flour arrows that might survive rain. Continue on, a bit rockier section ,for .3 miles to the turnaround.)
