2/12 Member Meeting & 2016 Race Page

Hello Everyone

Our 2016 Annual Member Meeting is coming up on Friday 2/12 at 7:30pm. We’ll be voting for the board members as well as discussing items for the 2016 Running Season. The meeting will be held in the Resnick Engineering Hall at SUNY New Paltz in Room 109. All are welcome at the meeting and we’ll have Shawangunk Runners Membership Form available if you’d like to sign up for 2016 at that time. Reminder that signing up gets you and your family free entry into the Summer Series and a Shawangunk Runners oval sticker. If you have any questions about the meeting or would like to bring something up please contact our President Steve Schallenkamp.

I’ve also create the 2016 Race Calendar page which will include the Shawangunk Runner Races as well as other local races put on in the area. A few notable ones which are coming up soon that we’d like you to be aware of are:
4/9/16: Rock and Snow Bridge 2 Bridge 5 Miler @ Mohonk Preserve
4/16/16: YMCA Kids Classic Races @ Dietz Stadium
4/17/16: Ray’s Run @ Dietz Stadium (Details and Registration Soon)

Hope to see you at the meeting!

A couple things…

Our Annual Meeting is coming up on Friday January 29th. We’re still figuring out where the meeting will be but it will most likely be at 7:30. I’ll post more info as we solidify the place and time. We need to select board members for this year so your attendance would be greatly appreciated.

We will soon be switching our Friday night workouts to the indoor track at SUNY.  If you would like your name added to the roster, please contact Beth Glace at lb@nismat.org

Shawangunk Runner Winter Workouts

Hi Everyone,

It looks like our Friday night track interval workouts will continue at Dietz Stadium till we get indoor at SUNY New Paltz on 1/22/16. We warm up at 5:45pm with faster running beginning at 6:15pm. Starting Wednesday December 2, 2015 we will start tempo run workouts at Dietz Stadium- tempo runs are generally longer, than intervals, and at a slower pace- we are starting up the Wednesday workouts again because the two workout supplement each other well but, also because we know some people cant make Fridays but still want to be part of a group workout experience- Also Geri Owens does our Friday workouts at SUNY New Paltz track on Saturday mornings and is looking for company- at all of our workouts everyone is welcome and of course there is no charge and if you want to join our club well its only $20 and you get benefits like first dibs of being on our winter indoor roster (the college limits us to 30 names) and you get a free entry into the entire New Paltz summer series (5 weeks) info on club membership is Shawangunk Runners Membership Form.

Steve and I plan to go out and figure out the course soon and I’ll post details of the course once we have it.  As the event grows closer continue to check the site for the latest information as well as your emails.

Rosendale Runs

The Rosendale Runs race will take place on October 10, 2015.  The Town of Rosendale, in upstate New York, just 90 miles from NYC provides a beautiful venue for its first time Half Marathon and its long standing popular 4.4 Plains Run.

Come experience breath taking scenic views around every bend in the midst of the fall foliage.  A mostly flat course, yet with just enough challenge to offer the sense of accomplishment desired.

Run across the trail that made the National Rails to Trails Conservancies top ten- list of most “iconic rail trails”.  You will cross over the 143- year old historic Rosendale trestle bridge, which extends 900 ft. across the Rondout creek. The race will take you along scenic lakes, into a cave lit only by “Holloween pumpkin candles”.  Come experience the dramatic scenery of the enchanting town of Rosendale that helped build the Brooklyn Bridge with its Natural limestone cement.

All proceeds will go the Rosendale Pool Fund.

After The Leaves Have Fallen Awards

After The Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon / Josh Feldt Memorial Run is coming up on November 8th, 2015.

For the past few years the awards at After The Leaves Have Fallen has been bread from Panera. Last year I decided to make up some little cards to go along with the bread. This year I wanted to go a bit further and see how crafty I could get. Overall Male Award

After much trial and error here is the first final Award for the race this year. They measure about 5.6″ x 4.2″ x .25″. They are made of poplar wood. I use a technique to transfer a photo I took at Lake Awosting to the wood. The paper is then removed and I use a laser burning machine to burn the tree image and words onto the wood. Finally it’s all covered with a layer of protection. These are 100% unique and handmade by me. There will be Awards for the Overall Male & Female as well as 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Male and Female in the following age groups: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & Over.

We currently have 29 people registered with 71 days to go. There is a cap of 350 registrants as parking is tight at Lake Minnewaska.
