At this time of year we think you’ll really enjoy the trail as it’s filled with leaves all different colors. This week is also special because it brings you 3 distances you can run. Please make sure you choose the proper distance when you go to submit your results. Distances are 4.5, 7.3 or 9.61.

The first turnaround will be Rest Plaus Rd. and that makes the run 4.5 miles the second turnaround is Kyserike Rd and that will be a 7.3 mile run the final turnaround is Lucas Turnpike/County Route 1. I will lay down flour flags, a cone and some tape at each turnaround. Legget Rd is considered Stone Ridge. Week 3 of the Shawangunk Runners Sky Lakes and Landscapes Autumn Series brings us to Minnewaska State Park. If you’re familiar with the Summer Solstice Run I think this will give you a new view in the fall. It’s an absolutely beautiful run with lots of lookouts.

Park Information – https://parks.ny.gov/parks/127
* Contains info on fees, hours, etc

AllTrails Course Link w/ Description:https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/castle-point-gallop-sky-lakes-series-minnewaska-state-park-8d1de74

General Notes
All rules, regulations and fees are required when visiting the actual race courses.

Course
The course is approximately 8.4 miles. If you aren’t running the actual course you should run 8.4 miles. Reminder that for this virtual series you don’t need to run the actual course but it’s definitely more fun.

NOTE: We did not mark this course in any way – it is a loop and should be quite apparent.
1. Drive to Upper parking area at Lake Minnewaska [not lower Awosting parking area].
2. From Parking area, walk to the start/finish line: stay to the right of the new visitor center, following carriage path to intersection of Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, red trail. At that intersection you will be overlooking the lake, at the top of a hill, with the trail going downhill on your right as you face the lake. That intersection is the START/Finish.  From that intersection, at the rail fence, run down the hill keeping the lake on your left on the RED trail.
3. Stay LEFT at the bottom of the hill, past the beach area. Go counterclockwise around the lake, staying on Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, RED trail.
4. Head uphill away from the beach and about a half mile from where you started, make a RIGHT on the blue trail, Castle Point Carriageway.
5. Stay on Castle Point Carriageway for approximately 2.5 miles, to the overlook at Castle Rock [great views]. The trail will go down hill, through switchbacks, and take you to the black trail, Lake Awosting Carriageway. Go Straight onto Lake Awosting Carriageway. The lake will be on your left.
6. Stay on the black trail, Lake Awosting Carriageway, about 0.5 miles to the intersection with the green trail, Upper Awosting Carriageway. This should be at about 5.3 miles into the run. Upper Awosting Carriageway, green trail, will be a mostly gradual downhill run back to Lake Minnewaska, about 3.1 miles. It is fast and very runnable.
7. At the beach area, intersection of Lake Minnewaska Carriageway, go LEFT up the hill to the finish/start [~100 yards uphill] to where you started your watch. 8.4 miles approximately.

This week takes to the Mohonk Preserve Testimonial Gateway.

If you’re not registered yet – https://www.zippyreg.com/online_reg/index.php?e=1453

A few extremely important things to get out of the way first…

  1. You MUST tell Mohonk Preserve rangers that you are there for the race when entering a parking area or at a station that may be on the course.
  2. If you aren’t able to find yourself as registered, it probably means I haven’t imported you from ZippyReg to RunSignup. This process is manual. If you need it done ASAP to enter your results please email christopher.regan@gmail.com

General Notes
All rules, regulations and fees are required when visiting the actual race courses.

Course
The course is approximately 5.8 miles. If you aren’t running the actual course you should run 5.8 miles. Reminder that for this virtual series you don’t need to run the actual course but it’s definitely more fun.

  1. The starting line is under the arch of the Gateway tower. Run down Pin Oak Allee to detour over Butterville Rd. Follow detour signs onto Lenape Lane.
  2. Make a Left on Lenape Lane, running across the fields, then uphill until you intersect Duck Pond Road.
  3. Make a LEFT on Duck Pond Rd, at the Park Ranger station. Continue past Duck Pond, keeping pond on your left. There will be nice overlooks from the high points on this trail. Continue until you get to Kleinkill Farm Rd. This is the highest point on the course and is the 5K mark.
  4. Make a right on Kleinkill Farm Rd, which will wind downhill to Lenape Lane. Go right on Lenape.
  5. Stay on Lenape, past the horse farm and kennels. When you return to Ranger hut go LEFT on Duck Pond Rd.
  6. Stay on this for about 200 yards until the parking area on Pine Rd. Go Right on Pine Rd.

AllTrails Map of the course – https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/map-fa83a11–37

Parking
The Testimonial Gateway is Mohonk Preserve’s first new trailhead in 26 years. We expect that the lot will fill VERY early on peak weekends. On summer and fall weekends, arrive early to ensure a parking space. Limited alternate roadside parking is available on nearby Pine Road.

The Testimonial Gateway Trailhead is located at 35 Route 299 in New Paltz, NY. Take the New Paltz exit 18 off of the NYS Thruway. Go west on Route 299 (through New Paltz) for three miles. The Testimonial Gateway Trailhead entrance will be on your right.
