Indoor Track is Back!

We have some fairly big news. For the first time in four years, our club has secured permission to resume our traditional Friday night winter workouts at the indoor track in the SUNY New Paltz Athletic & Wellness Center.

For nine consecutive Friday evenings, starting January 26 and running through March 22, a group of up to 25 club members will be granted access to the indoor track for an organized speed workout prepared by Coach Mike Barnow and led by Mark Eisenhandler. Sessions will run from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

Since we will be sharing the facility with students and other members of the college community, the SUNY Athletic Department has asked us to comply with these requirements:

  1. Facility access will be limited to a single roster of names for all nine weeks (a standing list, not one that changes each week)
  2. Per the college liability policy, the program is open to adults only (no one under 19 may participate or attend).
  3. As a sanctioned club activity, all participants must be current members* of Shawangunk Runners. (Most memberships expire at the end of December, so if you haven’t renewed recently, your membership may have lapsed.)

Access to the building will be limited to the 25 club members whose names are on the roster, so please don’t sign up unless you can commit to attending the majority of the workouts.

Here’s how you sign up:

  1. First, you need to have an active club membership, so start by visiting the Shawangunk Runners Membership Portal.
  2. For renewals, use the “Login” button to access your account (use the “Login Help” button if you need to retrieve your credentials). New members use the “Join” button.
  3. Once you are logged in, click the “Club Race Calendar” link in the menu bar to access the registration page for “Friday Night Indoor Workouts.” Registration is free.

Slots on the roster will be awarded to the first 25 people who sign up and then registration will be closed. So once again, please don’t take a slot unless your schedule permits you to attend regularly.

We hope to see you there!

*Club membership is only $20 for individuals or families for a calendar year. Memberships also get you free entry to our 5-week New Paltz Summer Series and $5 off our other events. It also gets you a one-week earlier registration window for our popular Solstice Run and After the Leaves Half Marathon, which often sell out. Use this link to join.

After The Leaves Have Fallen Race Info

Thank you for registering for the After the Leaves/Josh Feldt Half Marathon on 11/13 at
Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

CARPOOLING is strongly encouraged (parking is limited).

The weather forecast is for temps starting in the low 30s and getting into the high 40s
and a chance of showers.

PARKING: look at the course map to see where parking is relative to the start area. It is
approximately 1/2 mile from the upper parking areas. If the upper parking fills the lower
parking area is 1.5 miles (uphill) from the start area, try to avoid arriving late because
then you are in danger of missing the start. Last year some runners who were late
panicked and were rude to the park employees! Again, CARPOOLING is strongly
encouraged (parking is limited).

LOCATION: Minnewaska State Park Preserve 5281 Route 44-55, Kerhonkson, NY
12446 (Google Maps)
Minnewaska charges $10 per car, so carpooling will also save money. Empire Pass is
also accepted.

Start/Finish Area and Check-in (Bib pickup): Begins at 10:30 am and is 1/2 mile from
the parking areas. Head east on the red Minnewaska Carriageway (opposite side from
the Visitors Center). The park opens to the public at 9 am. Signs will direct you toward
the start area/bib pickup.

REGULAR START: 11:30 am for (those capable of running under 2:45)
Early starters: 11 am for runners who expect to run over 2:45. You MUST start at
11:00 am and complete the course by 2:15 pm when the course closes down. That
gives early starters 3 hours and 15 minutes to finish. Please make sure the timer knows
you are starting early.

After The Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon

We are BACK at Lake Minnewaska for the After the Leaves Have Fallen/Josh Feldt Memorial Half Marathon! The race is on Sunday November 13th.

Registration link: https://www.zippy-reg.com/online_reg/index2022.php?e=1753

This run is simply spectacular as we run around two pristine glacial lakes and along the Shawangunk Ridge which affords views into 5 states. The groomed unpaved carriage trails of the Preserve are perfect for running. The Shawangunk Runners Club strives to keep running affordable for all and that explains the low entry fee of $25.
(Additional $5 discount for club members: login to your account at zippyregclubhub.com/members/?org=4 and select “Club Race Calendar” for details.)

Registration is online only. We have a max limit of 300 runners and this race typically sells out. There will be awards in all standard 10 year age groups, refreshments, and a finisher’s gift for all finishers. The race will go off at 11:30 am with packet pickup beginning at 10:30 am. We must be off the trails by 2:15 pm so for people who can’t meet the 2 hour and 45 minute race cut off time we will have an early start time at 11am giving people an extra half hour to finish. If you can’t reasonably finish with a time under 3:15 this race is not for you. There is a “virtual option” to run the course on your own from 11/14-11/20.
